Stop niggling abotu the nose and face until the artist has reworked it as he's said he's going to, please.

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
Bleh, I can't believe it's been a month since I last posted here. Finding time to paint Wesnoth stuff is getting increasingly difficult lately...Guess that's summer time taking its toll.
Still, I'm almost done with the paladin. Here's what he currently looks like.
While I'm at it, I will also post the final horseman tonight.

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
Minor reworking of the horseman's skin tone and getting rid of the cross-eyed problem. As far as I'm concerned, it's ok for commitment.
Anyways I'm not getting back to the horseman : I'd rather move on to further units. Anyone still not satisfied with the face is free to propose a paintover.

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
More contrast in the shading around the pally's shoulders would be good, but other than that, he looks suitably luminous.
The horseman looks good. I'll get him committed tomorrow morning, unless anyone notices any errors.

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
I am glad to have you still around! But you're pretty close to finishing the loyalist portraits, only the horse units and the fencer line to go
The horseman looks certainly fine - commit him!
And the paladin looks more than promising, too. Was that the one for which you planned the glowing runes? I know it is early in the process, but I think the skincolour is too saturated, he looks sunburned to me. And I'm a bit freaked out by the horse's eyes; they look really alien-like.

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
Clearly all the glowing from his armour is giving him a tan
EDIT: Committed the horseman to trunk.

That looks awesome. I'm speechless.

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
I have a small question about the Paladin:
Where does the green shading to the armor in the one place come from? Is it the environment he's in? But when he's in a cave or someting, the shading would be black/gray, I think.
I know this is a really small thing, but I just wanted to say that.

The underside of the cape.
Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
Whoa. Awesome. I really like the colors on the Paladin, the bluish-silver armor, the white horse and the beige cape. It makes me wish the Paladin sprite had a cape(which it doesn't).
Given how bright the portrait is, I'd suspect the Paladin is standing on a grass area under the noon-day sun, with the green being reflected grass or a tree.woodmouse wrote:I have a small question about the Paladin:

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
Thanks to all for the kind words.
Kitty : the paladin was indeed the "glowing-runes" guy. However, now that I'm at it, I find that the blueish sheen of his armour looks magical enough to me. Besides, glowing runes on an already shiny character would be really hard to read, so I might just drop the glow.
Woodmouse / Gambit / Skrim : both theories about the greenish glow are right on the spot. I'll just answer Woodmouse's concern by saying that, with such intensity of light, you definitely cannot picture him in a cave I am contemplating portraits with night/caves lighting, but I think they'd be best suited for chaotic units such as the undead, orcs or trolls.
Will finish the paladin accounting for various comments. In the meantime, I've begun the cavalryman.

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
Almost done with the paladin, he should be complete tonight.
In the meantime, I'm also fiddling with possible Fencer/Duelist designs. The first picture, I fear, is still not medieval enough compared to most of the loys. The second picture currently holds my favour but lacks the crossbow, so I'm considering a third attempt for the Master at Arms.

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
The only thing i'd suggest would be a thin sabre-style sword with a basket guard rather than a straight one - this is a feature of the unit line, after all. Beyond that, I really like the three musketeers/cavalier feel to this.

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
My immediate reaction on cavalryman was that the saddle is too near to the head of the horse. (And that it looks great - the same with every portrait of yours. )
If you have a reference with a saddle positioned like that - great and I don't know where I get the false impression.
Otherwise you can judge yourself and adjust it as wished.
