the sprite is not really naked, even when the base frame might suggest so.

i like to have medieval explanations in medieval settings.
I'm not sure where you spent your Middle Ages, but there definitely was bacteria then! :D

The second picture looks like Wesnoth meets Monty Python ;-)

I agree we don't need to have (half) naked women in game.

PS: we do have some half naked men already ;-)

to take a break from the druid topic i have a half finished champion (number 14):
any comments? obvious flaws?

@ groovy: of course there were bacteria -but they had no concept of bacteria. thus green hair would be magical and not cyanobacterial...

@ sceletoncrew: thanks! i haven't played under burning suns yet - but those seem to be a good impulse :D

Do you have a reference pic for how he's reaching across his body like that? It'd be nice if you could post it for comparison... something about how his arm bends bugs me, but I'm not sure exactly what.

His hand should be closer to his neck. A persons wrist shouldn't bend that much, though the hand is at the appropriate angle for how he's holding the sword. The fore-arm needs to not have to angle so drastically to make the wrist have that shape. To do that, the hand must rest close to the neck or the elbow needs to cross the body more.

The joint must be in the middle of the body.
The arm should be around the neck.
The wrist is unnatural stressed.
You can grap behind your back without making such a wrench.
Try it yourself and you'll see.

She's a hard one to trust, And he's a roving ghost. Will you come back, will you come back, Or leave me alone?

I don't know how to explain it, but I think the difference in musculature and weight of the items held should be probably be taken into account. It still looks unnatural (the elf), but I can't describe it any better why, sorry. :(

Perhaps try for more than one reference? That pose does look unnatural.

The position of his arm is fine (as shown by the reference), but it isn't expressed accurately in your portrait.

In the portrait, it appears that his hand is tilted more away from us than it should be. It looks more like he is twisting his wrist down than bending it backwards.

This would probably be fixed by extending the middle two fingers a bit, and straightening out the line the top edge of his hand makes. His wrist should also stick up a bit more where it bends.

I hope 10 seconds with the smudge tool can demonstrate what I mean... sorry I'm terrible at drawing hands and wrists or I'd depict this better. I know I messed up the way he's grasping the hilt

I wasn't going to say anything as I figured you'd fix it when you did the shading, but it really does look different from your reference hand.

In any case... his face and the pose are both really great :D
