Minor slips in weapon icons

Post by fmunoz »

The icons are superb but some units were forgotten and lack of weapon icons... mostly in campaings specific units.
Kalenz is an example, his sword icon is missing.
(Yeah not really art development...)

This, or something like it for all graphical 'slips' like this (defence frames missing because it's pointing at the wrong file, etc) should probably have a thread (sticky?) in an open forum (technical support/art contributions?) so that anyone can report when they see one in game. I'm actually surprised that this has never come up before.

(I am of course assuming that this is a broken link to the .png, and not because he doesn't have one)

:o Have you checked 1.1.5? It should be there (assuming rev 11975 made it in, which I think it did).
Hope springs eternal.

Not yet... I was talking about an earlier (not much) SVN code.
So one less thing to fix :-)

:) Hey, thanks.

:? There seem to be a few other gaffes which happened - for example, a number of units using that dandy new human-crossbow icon actually were wired in with

Code: Select all

icon=crossbow-human.png
The correct one is

Code: Select all

icon=attacks/crossbow-human.png
I just noticed this last night. And there are more. What I've really got to do is sit down and do an exhaustive search, unit by unit, and make sure everyone has their icons. I haven't done that yet, mostly because not all the icons are done.

Jethyl, Can you add your quarterstaff icon to the game?
the outlaw queen unit in TRoW uses a non-magic staff as weapon.

I'll try to do something with some of the custom units attack icons missing ...
Skeleton dragon claws and fangs, red dragon tail, ant bite (UTBS spider also needs ther link to its fangs icon), fireclaws (I'll do this as I want it for my era too) , a glaive (South Guard), a vampire lady bite (mine too)...
Also missing are the drake scimitars.

Sure - I had needed to do some edits to that, but those edits have been done for some time now.

With regards to the glaive, we did get a chakram icon, recently (and it's in SVN) - given how nebulous the term "glaive" is, I'm not sure if that's what you were thinking of (the "glaives" used in Warcraft III were dramatically different, and IIRC, the historical weapon of the same name was actually a polearm).

Isn't a glaive simply a blade mounted on a pole? Sort of a spear that has an edge rather then a point.

It is, but the term has been redefined by a number of people in recent years (blizzard software being a big one). Enough people (millions) have latched onto the new use of the word that it is now essentially a valid definition.

I know that most of these images are done by me..
If I can configure the things today to commit them myself only a green ligth will be enough, otherwise somebody else have to do it.

Still missing in the SVN:
- Halberd (the new WIP one is still x100 better than the old one)
- Scimitar (for Drakes, maybe needs some improvements of resizing)
- Paladin sword: There is a good one there .. but not superb so maybe needs some edits (everybody loves the J's halo touch!).
- Gaze (The one done by me based on wolfie's, better than the old gray eye, not sure if its used anymore)
- Glaive (campaign specific, TSG)
- Lady vampire bite (campaign specific, TROW?)
- Bolas (Improved image done but not posted yet, UTBS)

TODO:
- Red Dragon tail (started.. I'll try to get it done tonight)
- Bone Dragon claws and fangs
- Spider and Ant fangs (IIRC There is a couple of images for the spider, UTBS)

If I miss something please post it :-)

You have a green light to commit these. Believe me, I trust your judgement. :D

A few of them - the paladin sword, for example, may get replaced later, but right now they're way better than nothing. I'd have committed them myself, but my svn has been in an odd state for some time; and having dialup made that hard to rectify. I'm going to fix that tonight, though.

I've got a lot of things to catch up on. Image
