btw, i think i will make a wesnoth map for conquest mod
the most urgent problem here is, that i can find a map on the forums i think, but i have no idea how to get the city names and stuff

and wesnoth would not be wesnoth if i add my own fantasy names to it (i also wouldnt like it)

also it may feature a few things:
- certain cities wil have special recruits (orcs, elves, dwarfes ...)
(for wesnoth map only)

-----------------------------

general feature-ideas for (inofficial) 1.2 version

- cities will have only seargent, elite infantry and cavalry as default recruits
lieutenants and generals will be only available by "buying" the recruits for a special city

- you can upgrade towns to cities. cities will give +1 income.

- you can upgrade towns to forts. forts will give +10% defense

- players may chose among different factions, with different units, at start

pls tell me what you think, and i woudl be happy if someone could help me with that "city name" problem
The best bet is your own, good Taste.

1.1 only has 4.5 corners you can safely be in, meaning someone is going to get screwed unless you have leaver. That's why brown and black need extra income.

ok, here is NULL's wsnoth map.

i modified it slightly to fit a bit the conquest style.
the HUTS may recruit orcs, the CAVE-CITIES may recruit dwarfes, ELVISH_CITIES may recruit rebels

normals towns will recruit normal units.

since i kinda lack city names i may name the cites just after the regions, but of course i weould be thankful if someone could provide some names for the cities and regions
The best bet is your own, good Taste.

of course not all is displayed due to outdated map-forum-display, and forget atm about the starting positions ;)

of course they will be somewhere in the map bottom (which dont exist yet)

i may also make some of the mountains unpassable so that there wil be more corners and strategic points

so its not final yet, but if someone could come up with some names it would be nice ;)
The best bet is your own, good Taste.

ok, "Conquest Wesnoth 1.1" Version is ready to run.

it features a modified Wesnoth Map (original made by NULL)
the 1.1 features, and in some cities you will be able to recruit orcs, elves or dwarves instead of the standard infanry, eliteinfantry and cavalry

- orcs have advanatge of being chaotic, better move on hills and their cav (wolfrider) has better defnse on cities and several terrains than human cav (in conquest all units have same resistances against blade)

- elves have advanatge of better movement and def in woods, also their cav is better on terrain than normal cav

- dwarves have slightly more expensive troops, but they have good def on hills and mountains, caves. horrible def on open land though. they are also a bit slower. their griffincavalry can fly though and has better overall def than human cav

so it makes some sense to get these. the base stats dindt change (except for dwarves, which units are slightly more expensive)

since its a new map you might need to get a feeling how it is played, but thats the point of a new map, right.

i treid to get as many names correct as i can, all others are a fantasy names, if somebody has better names for the fantasy cities tell me. :)

just copy the content of the ZIP Fle into oyur conquest folder, the single file contains all you need

slight update
conquest wesnoth 1.13

- steelclad is now neutral (it was chaotic for some reason)
- griffins a bit nerfed (they are now 12-6 attack ... instead of 14-6)

i agree that the combination of flying and 50% def on all hexes is already an advanatge so their damage is a bit lower than a unit that would cost 6 gold could have

ok, i have another update for conquest, an important one i think

this time its an general update, that will distribute ALWAYS 35/36 cities no mater how many players are at start of the game

so if you go with the ususal 6 players, everybody gets 6 cities and 6 gold

5 players: 7 cities 7 gold
4 players: 9 cities 9 gold
3 players: 12/12
2 players: 18/18

so no more wait for 6 players to not get so many empty places
just give it a go with 4 veterans, or even run a quick 3 player session

for the distribution its not important which of the slots is empty or which one is full, it simply counts the leaders

Re: Conquest 1.0 - Now on the 1.6 Add-on Server

So, I made a mod of EuropeConquest 1.1 with ships in it. Here you go.

How it works:
You can recruit a ship at any town near deep or shallow water. Ships can not move on land terrain and have slightly better combat stats than their land equivalents. Ships can be loaded with one unit from a village by right clicking the ship. Unloading is done in the same way. However, ships can only carry one unit at a time and if the ship is destroyed, the loaded unit vanishes.

After one longer playtest, here's a few changes, including one more ship type.

Please post feedback.

nice to see someone else is spending time and thoughts.
i like the idea with the ships and also the transport idea

----------------------------------------------

i have thought about another approach for ships, ships may be simply the "water-display" for certain units.

so you may sourround the coasts of the map with deep water and fill th area behind it with shallowwater, only exception wold be some dock-cities) which have a direct access to the shallowater.

when a unit is on shallow water (accessible via a dock-city) their dispaly is changed to a ship
(may depend on unit type), and since the coast is sourrounded by deep water except for the dock cities, you can only "land" (get back on normal land) on dock cities - simply by moving

so you dont have to buy ships, instead via dock cities every unit can move into the sea and vice versa.

you may edit also the def stats of a unit for shallow water (set it to 30%) or something.
and of course the movement costs. (to make ship travel significantly faster than actually on water you may even double all the movement for all units and double all movement costs also, except for shallow water which would then cost just 1.

only problem would be that you have to take care for the "river crossings" that inf is supposed to use, for these you would have to use reefs or something else then

this approach was inspired by "warlods III", some of you may know this game in which every (non flying) unit could get access to water via docks.

-------------------------------------------------

anoterh warlords inspiration would be to enable the player to BUY recruit options at cities.
players would start with a basci set (inf, elite (and cav maybe)) and may buy more recruit options

also upgradeing cities to give better defense is also another option
the question is only do the players want to play something like this

Ok. Ships are way too overpowered

For what they can do. Even a leutnant can't hold against a 15 gold ship. and u can unboard onto a village and recruit in the village. So, coastal villages are almost impossible to hold.

With ships, i think Turkey is the safest places to be.

Post a replay please, in the 4 games or so I had, ships only played a secondary role(sneaking on enemies that are far away, mostly). When you get to recruit ships and use them, you're usually on the UK or don't fight in close combat.

I'll get around to posting a replay sooner or later but nothing's better than testing it out yourself.

Ships are over powered. The reason? Well before a conquest game was won on wits by teaming up with other players, a bit of strategy of unit placement, and ofcourse some luck. But what a ship does is blow that all out of the water, pun intended. Lol anyways the thing is they seem to have more hp than units that cost the same which means a 5 gold boat usually kills the dragoon, and the 15 gold galleon kills a liuetenant on a village, but that's not the least of it. The main problem is that once they easily clear a village of it's defender, they simply board and unboard a unit usually 1 gold infantry, and now they own the village. You probably lose the territory bonus, and now you have a village spamming dragoons or lieutenants in your backside.

Now there are ways to counter this but, they're extremely costly! I mean, you can put units on every one of your coastal cities, but as I've stated before the ships can kill the defending unit, soo our next choice is blockading your cities with your own boats. While it's a good idea, most coastal cities need to buy two or more boats to block their area. So chances are if you're a territory near the sea you have to buy 4+ boats to counter against a single one. Then there is the choice to ZoC any choke points in the sea (Ireland, West and South Spain, Athens, and Copenhagen to name a few). But even still, boats have quite a large movement, and if you're only using one to block ZoC, the enemy needs only two or so boats to break through so you'll need to make a wall or something to block it off, which becomes costly as well.

My suggestion would be to either nerf the damage a boat does, or make it so you can't board a unit and unboard it in one turn. Like I said I'll work on getting you a replay but the fact you can ravage the coast of Italy-France-Spain in one or two turns with one infantry seems a bit overpowered to me. What I mean by this is that with a Galleon they can unboard a unit in a city then board it back up then move to the next coastal city, in 1 to 2 turns if you haven't killed that boat, you now lose 3 territory bonuses if you owned Spain, France, and Italy. Also I would like to see the larger shallow water crossing to UK and Turkey again, and the Ford that connected Denmark again.

Anyways I really do enjoy the idea of naval warfare, but I've seen one too many times a whole empire fall because someone snuck one in. You did an excellent job, and other than the occasional bug people get it really runs along nicely! I have to agree with you that they do play a supporting role in the game yeah, but the support they give just seems.. well you can barely ever counter it. But anyways good job with the upgrade, like I said I really enjoy it, I just find that the game tends to head downhill once someone is strong enough to buy boats, that wont screw over their land army.

btw, from what i have heard the solution for the problem is simple:

problem
- boats are to strong.
- unload/load have no restrictions

give them the same stats as an equally costing land unit (and a max. of 50% def on water), so a 15 gold ship has same stats a lieutenant, but slightly weaker def than a lieutenant in a city due to its 50% def on water while lieutenant woudl have 60% def in city (but stronger against a lieutenent in open who would have 40% then)

i dont see a reason to make boats stronger than land units anyway.
sure they cant go on land, but land units also cannot go on water, and furthermore, landunits cannot transport and unload other units.

--------------------------

so the whole solution is to make water-units equally strong as their land-equvalents yand you can counter them for the same price. so a lieutenant in a city may likely defend against 1 boat (but not against 2)

also a good thing would be to make unloaded units have 0 movement, and you can only load units if they have 1 or more movement

if i would be not busy with other things i would make the fix pretty quickly, if i IMPORT a new map ( i have a raw version of middle east (ripped from multiplayer server which cries for being transformed into a conquest map)) which woudl include ships i woudl simply give ships same stast as their land eqivalentes, and give unloaded units 0 movemnt, and units can be only loaded if they have 1 or more movement
