Ahhh...if you managed to kill the goblin king in the cave you've actually 'won' the prototype. Though no message is displayed to tell you that. :)
hjwn wrote: - the "Fatigue" value: at first I was not quite sure why the movement of my party was getting slower and slower. Well, then I saw that they simply were tired. It took me quite some time to crawl back from the mountain cave to the village (verrrry long). Nice idea, haven't seen this before. Impossible to run from enemies when tired :). After healing they stopped crawling.
Actually you can also remove fatigue by resting. You can rest by just holding down space anywhere, and you will see fatigue go down. This of course makes time go by, and you are vulnerable to an enemy wandering up to you.

You can also hold down shift while moving and it will make your party run. They will move twice as fast, but fatigue will grow four times as fast. Useful if you want to get past an enemy without fighting though.

K I got some help but it still was not working (I was using terminal)

iGloos:~/Applications/silver-tree iGloo$ sh build.sh
build.sh: line 1: sdl-config: command not found
build.sh: line 1: sdl-config: command not found
build.sh: line 1: g++: command not found

Why can it not find the commands?

(earlier I tried just ./game and that did not work either)

Velensk: if you are on a Mac and don't know what a compiler is, then you will probably have to wait until someone is kind enough to make a dmg for Mac.

Thanks,

Okay, I have created and uploaded a new version to http://www.wesnoth.org/tmp/silver-tree.tar.gz

The main feature of this new version is that ATI cards are now supported! Please test it out and let me know if it works. (I don't have an ATI card to test with).

Yeah, it works on my ATI :)

Cool stuff, although I missed a fireball-throwing mage and a dragon lurking through the mountain peaks :P

Well, I cheated. After dying twice I fooled around with the source, then found the .cfg file and upped my stats (it was getting late (lame excuse)).

Oh boy, I'm obviously not that comfortable with READMEs:
Dave, in his first post, wrote: cursor keys move around the map
space rests
I've read "space restarts", so I avoided the space key at any cost

I will certainly keep an eye on "Sliver Tree".

If anyone is interested in further development of Silver Tree, we now have a Google Group (i.e. mailing list/forum): http://groups.google.com/group/silver-tree-development/

There is also an IRC channel: #silver-tree on irc.freenode.net

I tried the new version, and yay, colours and textures are on, but the colours are weird (see attachement).

Controls still not working: <, >, [left] and [right].

I have an iBook with the following keyboard settings:

Code: Select all

        Option "XkbKeycodes" "macintosh"
        Option "XkbSymbols" "macintosh/fi"
        Option "XkbGeometry" "macintosh"
        Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
        Option "XkbLayout" "fi"

Also, there is a considerable performance issue on the world map (combat works good), moving one hex, even with 0 fatigue, takes about 8 seconds. My system is G4 1.33GHz, 1G memory, and Radeon 9550.

must be the Radeon. Your screencopy shows 3fps, that's way too slow. I've got an old 1.4 GHz CPU with 512MB memory and get 20-30 fps (but with nvidia grafics, 128MB).

EDIT: concerning the keyboard control, try all keys you've got on your keyboard. You have to find the ones that have the corresponding labels on the US-version.

Is it possible to simply explain what you did to get it running on a mac?
Sure thing. This is how it goes:
  1. Format and partition the hard drive
  2. Install Linux
  3. Boot
  4. Donwload and compile the source
  5. Start the game
It couldn't be easier :P

Thanks, :? but at the moment, i'm not eager to format my HD.
Though i'll probably have such a set-up whenever i get a new computer.
