How about making a sticky thread in the User's Forum, where people can post invitations/challenges to multiplayer games. That way we can have online MP games where all players are humans.
Ideas about time zones: everybody agree in the time in +0 GMT, so there are less (but mistakes are inevitable, so they will happen) misunderstandings about time.
