We are happy to announce that Wesnoth is now able to accept donations on Liberapay . While Wesnoth does rely on the work of dedicated volunteers, no project can function completely cost-free. Revenue from the Apple App Store and from donations goes towards maintaining our servers,...
There have been numerous important forum posts and wiki articles written by users and developers. We reference these pages a lot, and decided to put them together in a convenient list.
Write clearly, be nice to others, and be very careful when posting anything related to politics or religion. When asking for help, remember that everyone here is a volunteer. Prefer editing your previous post over double posting. No animated avatars or graphical signatures. Don’t plagiarize other’s...
This topic is for our writers to introduce themselves. Check in and give us some idea of your interests, your capabilities, and your availability.
I'll start. I'm your Lord of Prose, full name Eric S. Raymond, and yes I'm the famous open-source ESR but that probably will never be relevant here and...
The prosa of the named campaign is in a mixed state.
Some speech is quite good because it was rewritten for the mainlineing of the campaign.
The older parts sometimes just not seem to fit to the new content.
The campaign has high quality portrait images for most characters but only a few have...
Consensus on the earlier thread seems to be to give mainstream Wesnoth day and year lengths approximately equal to those of Earth, with the finer details still To Be Agreed.
The Fate of a Princess campaign has a couple of dated journal entries mentioned in it. As I am not aware of...
I noticed the other day that, out of the many unit descriptions, the bats were some of the most in need of a redo. I hope to cover that problem in this thread. I've written a vampire bat description which I'm posting here for comment. I'm happy with anybody's critiques.
Kitty and TSI are making various wonderful new portraits, and it seems like a good opportunity to make new descriptions, as well. I'm going to follow TSI's progress and make new Drake descriptions. Yes, I'm lazy. I'm picking the one with fewer portraits done and with more to base my descriptions...
I've decided to start coming up with various proses of lore for my campaign, Guardian Order. Here, I will describe everything about the Guardian Order and it's history. I won't be revealing anything about the plot of the campaign though, as it would be counter-productive to the fun my campaign is...
If it is possible I was wondering if a map existed that would show wesnoth in the year 500 YW. Basically I want to know where the wars with the orcs occured. The current map in on the geography wiki is from 450 YW, and 50 years is a long time. I'm sure there were changes in those 50 years....
I was not active for few months, but just before that, in 1.7.0, I quickly introduced support for faction and era description in help (see the new section Factions , only filled with pages when in MP, I must still fully hide it in SP). Then I forget about it :-(.
I'm new to BFW, currently playing the Heir To The Throne campaign.
I noted that the end-game victory screen is wordy and hard to understand.
It reads,
You will start the next scenario with X on top of the defined minimum starting gold.
This would be much improved if written this way:
You will...
The Green Isle was home to many allied Kingdoms of Men, who we shall call Isle-folk, and the Wesfolk, bandits and skeletons led by powerful Lich Lords. A Large War was waged, ending in the defeat or petrifying of many Lich-Lords and retreat of the Wesfolk. From...
This is a short story covering the first scenario of Heir to the Throne.
...Probably needs a little more proofreading, maybe some fleshing out of the characters, but I'm kinda tired of looking at it these days so I'll post early , a la' an Open Source project. Along with that comes post often...
The subject is descriptions. Wesnoth has a wonderful universe, not more cliched than some major fantasy series and certainly with the same potential...
...and three-line descriptions of lvl3 units. I don't like that, and I gather that the opinion on this forum...
I noticed a distinct lack of definition of history prior to the founding of Wesnoth. Is there a campaign or something semi-officicial that deals with the beginning of the world, etc.?
I'm asking because if there isn't already something, I might try developing a campaign to cover the time period....
I just thought, is there a space for settings and stories from UMC in the lore collection? Perhaps as a secondary resource (like the dodgy Star Wars novels are sometimes included in the canon).
For instance, the whole idea of The Brotherhood of Light, was taken from the unit description of the...
So for the record I played the ooze mini campaign and found it, well, more enjoyable then many of the mainline campaigns. So I decided to write up a story based on it. This is the first chapter. I'd like review and advice from anyone who has played the Ooze mini campaign. Especially from the guy...
Since the current Dwarf Scout line descriptions are... somewhat sparse, at best... I thought I'd give them new descriptions to complement their new sprites.
Current descriptions:
New Scout:
New Pathfinder:
New Explorer:
I'm happy to take critique, but this isn't an excuse for anyone and...
I'm working on moving all the text from The Rise of Wesnoth onto the wiki. So far, I'm only through Scenario 4a, but I've noticed a few things that could be adjusted. For example:
Minister Edmond's Temple
Prince Haldric: Careful, you don't know what's lurking in there!
I've noticed, in the Wesnoth help files, on the unit pages, a couple of the attack names are wrong considering what the unit is actually armed with. It's minor detail, but I don't think there's any harm in pointing it out. Here are a few, and the changes I propose:
One of the stated purposes of the Writer's Forum is Storyline prose in the mainline and UMC campaigns . I take this to include things like redoing unit descriptions (which I will be using as an example in this thread). Similarly, Art Contributions is for contributing art for the game. However,...
Do the races of wesnoth have any deities? I would imagine that there are at least five; on for the men, one for the elves (possibly a goddess),
one for the Dwarves, one for the orcs, and a major evil God. are there minor deities, or elemental deities?
Hey, I am working on a short story fan-fic for wesnoth, and I need to know who I can send it to, that could take a look at it during the earliest possible stages of writing in order to correct any historical mistakes and could help out with any questions I may have about story-line. If anyone could...
Why should dwarves be Scottish? Admittedly, in another thread in this forum, I espoused the idea, supporting it with various statements from around the forums; and admittedly, it's better to have them Scottish than to have no identity at all, but if they're going to be Scottish (a 'fact' which I...
Hieringar 5th of the year 501 YW
As always I have begun a journal before a campaign, lest misfortune strike. Should such an event happen may the reader pass this journal to my wife, Kiera.
Kiera, should you read this, my heart cries for you. I have always loved you and your name was on my lips and...
I wrote a Diary for a Garadinian Soldier, Addry, during 500-518 YW. It is incomplete so far.
Hieringar 5th, 501 YW
Dear Diary,
The Good King Garard has decided to attack the Orcs at Galcadar, by the Ford of Abez. The march should be about 2 Days. In the Early Morning,I said my farewells to my...
In Bob's RPG Era there is an inventory system which allows you to examine various objects. I aim to have a short descriptions for all the possible weapons. jb wrote a batch of them for me a while ago, which I am very grateful for. I was wondering if anyone wanted to contribute any more? Criticism...
I'd like to say that I think this whole writer's sub-forum is a great idea. In the past it has sometimes felt like text has been overlooked in some corners of Wesnoth. In fact, I used to feel a bit like I was just a pedantic saddo for letting lines like Grrr, lets kick there asses! put me off...
I think part of the problem is there isn't enough written about the Wesnoth universe to even determine what fits in and what doesn't. Aside from what's already in the game and some brief history , we have no reference material to tell us in detail about Wesnoth.
