A Rather Mournful Piece

Hi, guys.

I did this piece some time ago and having found this wonderful game of yours, I decided to try to contribute, as it is much better in many aspects than most professional games.

Re: How to play Northerners

I also find the Northerners vs Drakes match-up quite difficult. I've read that I should overpower drakes with numbers, but having equal number of villages, I don't seem to be able to recruit a lot more units than they are. And when there is a line of 4 or 5 drakes, it seems invincible, really giving...

That's exactly the point - unless you can come up with an algorithm for 'best' that suits all players' playstyles, you're going to end up with autoculling of units that they wanted to keep. Yes, you're right. My proposal would require a more significant change. The player would pick his/her units a...

Yeah, that's right. I've started playing five days ago, so I'm not trying to play as best as possible, but just to survive missions. For example, on Isle of the Damned, playing it for the first time, I seemed to have lost badly after 12 rounds or so, but then I changed tactics, employed some harassm...

Re: Recalling Units After A Few Missions

The solution would be to limit the number of recallable units to some reasonable number. Recalling is a great feature of campaigning, I'd just limit it a bit. Unless you want it to drop units from your recall list at random, this is going to require you to manually prune your list anyway. No, it wo...

I see. I take back the proposal. I've played the tutorial and The South Guard campaign and I haven't noticed that. Maybe my fault.

I didn't know recalled units were more expensive than recruits. I don't see any information about the price in the recall pane.

The problem is that, being logical, I want to use them. Those who have more than 0 XP, which is majority in the recall list, are suitable to recall, thus forcing me to spend a few turns searching and recalling.

Recalling Units After A Few Missions

After several missions in a campaign, you may recall a throng of units at the beginning of next mission. That, of course, in order to play more effectively, forces you to recall rather than recruit. I find this a bit tedious. I have to search through the list and pick units by their XP and other par...
