Turns out there's a bug with unit type variations not working in multiple (all?) situations in Wesnoth 1.15.4, and not just in these campaigns — the Walking Corpse unit line is presumably affected as well. The issue will be fixed in 1.15.5, but in the meantime a lot of things will be plain broken, ...
