Those are issues that do not bother me as much. And if you are making maps for online, you have to use some wml anyways. I have made maps to play locally as a lan party with friends before with 12 sides, and we did not have any issues. And there are color add-ons you can use for the ai sides to have...

Having issues with the steam 1.14 version. Lots of animations are only being half displayed. It is not my hardware on my pc, 1.12 and 1.13 run quite well. It is like the steam version is poorly optimized.

Okay I discovered a workaround! In 1.13 they added a new feature that can be placed under the [side]

faction_lock=yes
faction_from_recruit=no

These solved my issue!

this is a picture from the in-game inspection tool. The inspection tool shows that the side has its faction list overwritten by the factions in the era used.
