Re: MP coop campaign: World Conquest

Thanks for the feedback. If you're looking for more of a challenge, I would definitely recommend moving up to lieutenant--that's what the "default" challenge level started out as, the easier levels were just put in since some players were having trouble with it. On harder difficulties you'...

Re: More mainlined small maps

Do they have enough skill to detect imbalances? Probably not--but that doesn't stop them from perceiving imbalances. It's unclear whether smaller maps are more prone to generating newbie misconceptions or not, but I would certainly suspect they are; games getting decided quicker and more easily mean...

Re: trying my hand

The sprite has short legs, which your portraits certainly convey here, but the ones on the sprite are still pretty thick. Not as disproportionately beefy as the arms, but not the least bit skinny either. The tweaked legs are looking a lot better. I reiterate that the "pinhead" look you're ...

Re: trying my hand

Good start, but proportions feel a bit off. Everything from waist down seems shrunken. This is probably the worst part. You could almost possibly write the rest off as "misshapen ogre anatomy" but the legs are way too scrawny. Short and stumpy is probably the way to go, but one way or the ...

Re: A few thoughts on the Dark Sorcerer

Getting the melee attack is kind of the dark sorcerer's thing. Yeah, it's a pretty marked difference, but it's there for a reason--look at how little growth he has on his ranged attack!

Re: No More Wesbowl?

Some time ago I did put together WesbowlPlus, intermediate in complexity between old school Wesbowl and Bob's Wesball. It's available on 1.4 under TL's MP Maps (although I just noticed that it had been slightly broken until I fixed it just now  ), although I haven't ported it to 1.6 yet.

Re: Armor

How do you arrive at "chain=20% blade and impact"? These resists show up on the swordsman and the royal guardsman only . Out of 2 unit sprites and 2 unit portraits, only the swordsman portrait is shown with chainmail; both sprites and the royal guard portrait show full plate. Meanwhile, ot...

Re: Random maps

I too have noticed the AI acting unusually timid in recent dev versions, although mostly it seems to still be pretty good about grabbing villages with its scouts if there are no enemy units around. But it does have a tendency to hang back and cluster around on good terrain even if there is hardly an...

Re: Isar's Map Bugged?

P3 can do this to P4 just as easily as P1 can to P2. So neither team really gets much of an advantage from this.

Re: Mage Experience

Well, mages do have generally stronger advancements than augurs or adepts, and they're pretty transformative too. Adepts have one of the smallest increases in their primary attack strength of any unit (by far, if you don't count scouts); augurs can get a decent (but not great) damage boost, but thei...

Re: Newbie's comments re. Game Manual

9-4 (50%): The dragoon gets 4 swings (chances to cause damage). Each swing has a 50% chance to succeed (this is based solely on the target's affinity for their terrain: the thug, like the average human-sized foot unit, has 50% defense in forest), and each successful swing will take 9 HP away from th...

Re: Newbie's comments re. Game Manual

The bar graph shows the probabilities that the combat will end with each side having that much HP remaining. So in your example the thug has a 6.3% chance of taking no damage and staying at 33 HP.

Re: Cannot downlaod addons

I can use the 1.4 addons server just fine from the current stable version, but the 1.5.11 build has been getting "remote host disconnected" every time I try it.

Re: Archmage: wacked out survival scenario for 1.5.0

I haven't really been maintaining this at all since 1.5.0. I was planning on reworking much of it, but I'm not sure I'd really bother at this point (I do have some ideas for possible successors to the concept, but nothing really firm just yet).

Re: Objective game balance: Myth, or falsehood?

It's pretty obvious here that you're misconstruing what I'm saying, or at least what I'm trying to say. Even beyond unit-recruitment and use for aesthetics (I don't need bats, they aren't undead! would be another example) I think you're underplaying it. I'll point to the (fairly easy to find) gener...
