Re: Defeat
Now THIS works much better! I think you should make the final chord last longer. It ends up to abruptly. I much prefer this new theme! That is a wise decision to sometimes put aside something that doesn't work. I worked quite a bit on the Main menu's music. I re-orchestrated it and added a new theme...

Re: Defeat
Plus, most of the time I just hit End Scenario when I die, so I usually never hear the end of the defeat track, and i'm sure it's probably the same for everyone else, unless it was an epic battle and I check the stats. Yeah, but you can't really think like that. The music has to be perfect from sta...

Re: Defeat
I agree with Rain. Even though you changed the picardy third, you still finish the music with a suspensive chord. I still don't get the feeling of defeat.

Bingo!Rain wrote:And because he chose Bolero as a specific example, I think Aleksi was trying to allude to orchestral variation rather than development of form on what might best be isolated for future re-works.
And have a look at Wojciech Kilar's music to Dracula.

Re: The Dangerous Symphony
About the repeating part, is was talking about the main theme. The "waltz" theme. I wasn't considering it really as a theme, more like the skeleton of the whole composition...but if taken as a theme, it is perhaps stated too many times. What's problematic is that I fear it's difficult to ...

But, its just one point of view.

Re: The Dangerous Symphony
I think its pretty good overall. What disturbs me most is that you have a main theme that loops way too much. It gets very annoying after a while. It gives an impression of "background music". And music should not be like this... Even though it is for a video game, you should be able to li...

Yes, same for me, i will do a more profound analysis. I didn't quite have the time myself as well.

Re: The Dangerous Symphony
Are VSL much better than Eastwest (I know they are much BIGGER :-p) Bigger, and more expensive. But way, wayyyyy better! I can barely listen to my EW collection sounds anymore... VSL sounds have a lot of body to them, a very real touch and amazing legato. But, it is harder to mix and you've got to ...

Re: The Dangerous Symphony
I'm not saying that you have to take this middle part out, its just that i comes up very surprisingly. A good transition would be more appropriated. But then, its your music, so your call! ;) As for the opening Menu music, its funny that you are mentioning it. I was just about to reveal a new versio...

Re: The Dangerous Symphony
Hello,
Its pretty good so far. But i find the middle part strange, you change atmosphere so fast. It seems like its just another music glued to it. I would work on that, what do you think?

Re: First shot at a Wesnoth-like music
In fact I try to avoid a "pop-music" structure when composing orchestral pieces, retaining a more classical variations-on-theme form, but the first could be what works better in Wesnoth. Anyway, what's the music needed in the game? I'll do a better job if I know before where the music cou...

Re: First shot at a Wesnoth-like music
New day, new music :) Perhaps i should have modified the other music, but I was inspirated today too, so I composed a different piece. I don't know where it could be used, perhaps a part of it can be used in a particular situation. I think its good to have many ideas, but its even better to stick w...

Re: Defeat
It think it works pretty good, but i would like to hear a more consistent piece. Its still a bit "light" in my opinion... When you lose a battle, you lose most of your men, its supposed to be heavy and hard to live. I don't quite get this feeling with this music yet. Aleksi. *Not too many ...

Re: First shot at a Wesnoth-like music
Hello and benvenuto! Its pretty good overall. But, i have some critics to make towards the orchestration. There are too many parallel octaves in the strings at the beginning. It gives a very poor sound and balance to the intro... Second thing, it seems like you don't really know where you are going....
