Re: World Conquest tek (aka World Conquest II)

One thing I've noticed from watching a lot of WC games is that the AI scouts and takes villages very inefficiently. This is something that the players would usually not notice, since most of the enemies first few turns of recruiting are done behind the fog of war. The AI usually assigns the first tu...

Re: World Conquest tek (aka World Conquest II)

I had some comments on 1P, but it seems that ellyk pretty much said all I wanted to say. It seems the changes you mentioned would solve the problems. I was actually playing on Lieutenant, which might be harder than Nightmare in a way. If in Nightmare the enemy gets a lot of Level 3 units, that means...

Re: World Conquest tek (aka World Conquest II)

First off, I would like to thank you for all the incredible work you've done on World Conquest. Since the original World Conquest, I've seen lots of alterations to it (I've even made my own), but most of them seem unbalanced. Too hard, too easy, or sometimes they just don't "feel" right. B...

Re: Some thoughts on WCNM & Multiplayer

I disagree. I feel that that specific section of strategy is a small (and relatively boring) facet of the highest level of skill in Wesnoth. You can hold off a ton of units with proper formations (even those controlled by a human player rather than a mindless AI) but I do not believe that you can c...

Some thoughts on WCNM & Multiplayer

A while ago, I posted a thread about why there was (seemingly) a decline in multiplayer matches. After watching some multiplayer games, and then watching quite a few games of World Conquest (NM), I think I have an answer. I think the highest level skill in Wesnoth is learning to form lines, to use y...

Re: Introduce yourself here!

I am Glowing Fish. I am pretty old school (summer of 2004), but I won't claim that makes me good! :) My biggest contributions to Wesnoth are my one-scenario campaign, "Forward They Cried", and my unit design: the Flaming Berserking Vampire Bat. Which I am sure will be included in some rele...

Re: Anybody able to beat two AI opponents?

I would like to commend everyone in this thread (one or two exceptions notwithstanding), for their overwhelming honesty in admitting the normal limitations of their skill. We used to have a huge problem with cocky "gosu-gamers" pretending like no AI can ever beat a human, and that's just ...

Re: Pick your ideal recruits

and what leadres are good in this era? For leader, everything works what you would choose in default for your faction. Use one of them as a patch for the not-so-obvious weakness of your team. Personally i vote for Elvish Marksman, Drake Warrior and Troll as the best. Well, I can always dodge this w...

Re: Pick your ideal recruits

Well, I can always dodge this with: "Depends on the map, depends on the amount of starting gold, depends on the turn limit, depends on the..." Etc. It also depends on what my opponent is going to get, or what I think they are going to get. But, I would say: 1. Elvish Shaman: Slows, heals, ...

Re: What I learned from 376 turns of Auction-X

It is hiring gryphons because the AI's first hire is for scout units to grab villages. Of course, they have a good other scout, the footpad, which is much cheaper, but they don't hire it... Which would make sense if it didn't recruit four gryphons at once, thus blowing its entire budget and not bei...

Re: What I learned from 376 turns of Auction-X

Yeah, the AI seems to have bizarre aversions to certain units, and favour others (all-gryphon initial recruit, anyone?). It's wacky. It is hiring gryphons because the AI's first hire is for scout units to grab villages. Of course, they have a good other scout, the footpad, which is much cheaper, bu...

Re: What I learned from 376 turns of Auction-X

Some of these are obviously things the AI shouldn't be touching, like Berserkers and Fencers, but across hundreds of turns in all of these games, the AI never recruited a SINGLE Elvish Fighter, Drake Fighter or Spearman. Instead it recruits specialty units. I've noticed that too. When I've played a...

What I learned from 376 turns of Auction-X

Recently, in a fit of boredom, I have been watching the AI duke it out on Auction-X. I give each side +5 Gold a turn, but otherwise keep the standard settings. (5 extra gold is not much, it means that each side can get an extra unit every three turns) The only constant is that the middle AI always l...
