Re: How do you determine a campaign's difficulty and balance, and a player's skill level?

I haven't noticed much correlation between the stated difficulty of the campaign and my perceived difficulty of the campaign. IMO, Heir to the Throne is harder than burning suns/hammer/sceptre of fire even though those are "more difficult" campaigns. Like gnombat said, it's more about how ...

Re: The Grand Tag! 2v2 Tournament - 4th edition (Round 1)

Does this help?

It does not help. I learned GMT is not the same as the time in Greenwich. Add 1 hour.

Re: The Grand Tag! 2v2 Tournament - 4th edition (Round 1)

I'm not involved in this community at all. I have 20 posts in 4 years and I don't know anybody. I came here because I like Wesnoth, and it'd be nice to see a tournament with top players playing matches with pride on the line. Neki is ruining the event for me, and he repeatedly says he's doing it und...

Re: The Grand Tag! 2v2 Tournament - 4th edition (Round 1)

I'm just an observer to the tournament, but I'm mad enough about Neki's behavior to make a long post. I can't imagine what it must be like to play in this fun event against him. No rule set known to man can stop neki from playing his Wesnoth games as soon as he pleases! So gear up for some brutal We...

1v1 VoDs?

Are there any Youtube channels (or twitch, etc.) out there that have recordings of multiplayer gameplay with commentary? The commentary could discuss strategies being used, tactics, RNG, why that player recruited that unit composition, whatever. I've found a few that are just silent, but I think com...

Re: Ladder Site Online...

Back on topic: Is there any reason not to add the following? 1) Either player can request that the game be played non-random. The first player picks a faction, then the second player picks a faction. (Note: This still allows players to play Random vs. Random... it only prevents players from choosing...

Re: Ladder Site Online...

So there's this mountain of evidence that choosing Random is advantageous over choosing a faction You should know yourself that such a statement based on (even a huge number of) examples is no valuable evidence. I mean, for example, if I said, "Working out helps you perform better in sports. I...

Re: Ladder Site Online...

In regards to the last two posts, non-random players get to pick leaders that fit the map/their playing style, wheras random players don't get that luxury, and also run the risk of getting a sub par leader, say a wose. In a match between two skilled players, if one can utilize their leader in some ...

Re: Ladder Site Online...

Besides, random is only really an advantage if one is well versed with all the factions on that map, and comfortable with all other match-ups as well on aforementioned map.... EXACTLY! I know that you're trying to disagree with me, but this is exactly my point and I couldn't have stated it better. ...

Re: Ladder Site Online...

So I'm making a suggestion that apparently hasn't been discussed: For ladder play, if one player wants to pick a civ, he can require his opponent to choose a civ as well. If the opponent truly wants to play random for whatever unknown reason and not to gain an unfair advantage, the opponent can roll...

Re: Ladder Site Online...

I think random map is a great option, but I'd hesitate to require it, especially for low levels. I like certain maps and dislike others. I'm also not familiar with all the maps and it would take me a ton of time to learn them all. From my experience playing Starcraft, I actually think that it's unfa...

Re: Ladder Site Online...

I suggest you don't start reading Glicko 2 and start with Glicko 1 if you're trying to get through it, since he only defines key variables in Glicko 1. I've identified some key problems with Glicko that I'll just summarize: 1) To the average player, it's far more esoteric than even Elo ratings (for ...

Re: Ladder Site Online...

Global Elo_Divide_Factor should be 525, not whatever it currently is. If you don't want to have an uneven number (although 5^4 is a sex number), 500 is ok as well. Data inc later. Also, you should lose full k-value against lower rated provisionals. It appears that now you don't (no idea why not). I'...
