Re: Scenario Review: DW 1 - Invasion!

1) What difficulty level and version of Wesnoth have you played the scenario on? 1.10.2 Highest (triton) (Only reload from start of level) (2) How difficult did you find the scenario? (1-10) 9.5 (3) How clear did you find the scenario objectives? Pretty clear, kill the bad guy. (4) How clear and int...

Re: Scenario Review: NR 2 - Infested Caves

K3RT I'm having the same problem in 1.8.3 and I think the problem is that while it may have been possible to beat it with BONUS in 1.6 with as little as 350 gold, it is now nearly impossible without save/loading to even beat it WITHOUT BONUS at even 560 gold. Check out these replays as I've tried it...

Re: Problems with Gold and the Leveling System in BfW?

I think it's really just fine the way it is. You don't even need to have knowledge of later scenarios if you go for a mixed party for leeling, which is usually the best path to take. Sometimes the very beginning of a campaign can be difficult, since you cannot effectively build said variety of units...

Re: Iron Man Mode

play some 1 vs 1 multiplayer. It'll definately kick your reload habit when you know how to live without it.

Edit: and yeah, the campaigns are incomparably more fun without reloading.

Re: Ghosts unstoppable vs. Dwarves?

well poachers are better I think. Someone did a test and found that poachers at night deal 3-4 damage agaionst ghosts due to rounding.

Edit: bah, being a moron. That test was in this thread lol.

Re: Why people consider undead to be underpowered?

Maybe you should stop playing against 25 gold AI. As it happens, I don't play against the AI except for giggles, which I've done once in the last few months. I spend a lot of time, however, watching the games of top ranked ladder players and other people I recognize as good players. Radament, the p...

Re: Advice needed

On challenging, I actually played defensively through this one. Probably not the best approach but it worked. I first took the villages, but let the orcs chase me all the way back to my keep on the first difficult night time. This spread the orcs out rather thin. Then I bumrushed them as hard as I c...

Re: So, I see that the luck aspect is controversial...

I'm going to try again. I needed to come here for some psychological readjustment. I should not feel compelled to rely on my high level units. My recruits need to do the bulk of the fighting. My first units need to be recruits, and my high levels will come out later when I have the situation under ...

Re: So, I see that the luck aspect is controversial...

one thing that'll help is learning zone of control. Once you get used to blocking you'll be able to protect a unit from being attacked AT ALL with sometimes as little as 1 or 2 units in front. Another thing is terrain advantage. Many times it may be a bad idea to kill a vulnerable enemy if the unit ...

Re: Principles and Doctrines

How about calling it "Laws (principles), theories (faux-principles), and Generalizations (doctrines)"? Less ambiguous, and more or less the same thing. Edit: actually not sure if this topic is even a good thing. I wouldn't want wesnoth to get overanalyzed like chess, with 50-page explanati...

Re: Principles and Doctrines

I'd just take out faux-principles altogether. They're a nice concept, but pretty confusing to most. And essentially you can reword just about any faux-principle to make it a doctrine. If you have to correct half the people replying, most likely they will be intimidated into not submitting anything.

Re: How many healers?

Yeah 4 healers is pretty much overkill IMO, two's fine for me. More important, as others have said, is getting tough soldiers in front to form a blocking wall, and fast units for when you absolutely need speed. However, getting your very first healer is a very high priority, as it'll be working over...

Re: Why people consider undead to be underpowered?

Eh, first of all it's actually a 10% resistance to fire (for ghosts) and only -20% for fire for skelotons. The low hitpoints and no traits is the other problem. Second of all, it is easiest for knalgans to kill ghosts at night. That is when the outlaws hit harder and the outlaws are amoung your bes...

Re: Why people consider undead to be underpowered?

ghosts do have their uses, though, especially against knalgans who can't really kill it effectively at night (not to mention killing ulfs almost for free is a plus). I personally would like to see it's cost reduced to 19, but I haven't played long enough to know if it'd be worth it. I find undead di...
