Re: artisticdude Might Be Back to Spriting...

What you've done with the palette there is a good start, but isn't having the impact it could potentially have because your pink, green and light blue are all very close in... something... I'm not sure what the correct term(s) is, but they are all light, low saturation colors so they can't contribut...

Re: shiremct's art thread

I'm repurposing this thread as a general dump for various random things. It feels like ages since I've had the time or inspiration to do much of any spriting, but I've been toying with Paint a little here and there the last few days and am quite enjoying it. Though few would have any actual utility ...

Re: Status of Loyalist Baseframes

Yea, looking back at it, my comment was a bit hard to follow, but looks like you got all the issues sorted out nicely. Excellent work, the pose is great now and the feet look more firmly planted on the ground. For what it's worth, I think the balance is great now without the cape. My only (very) sma...

Re: Status of Loyalist Baseframes

I love the design of the helmet and pauldrons and you are right of course about the legs being out of proportion. It may just be a personal preference thing, so feel free to disagree, but I see some issues with the pose now in the opposite direction. The unit's left arm looks slightly over-sized and...

Re: Status of Loyalist Baseframes

I agree, the two eye slits and general round shape are probably the root of the "big head mode" effect that bothers me. There are quite a large number of examples where stuff is reused over a line or even over several lines within a faction with little to no modification, so I don't think ...

Re: Status of Loyalist Baseframes

And now he dwarfs even the Halberdier: This shouldn't be viewed as a good thing, and this is part of my issue with this massive helmet. I personally dislike the design of the swordsman's helmet, but it's not a completely unreasonable design; I feel these bucket helms that reach out to the shoulders...

Re: Forest-keep layering options

Forgive my ignorance if I'm making incorrect assumptions as I have very little experience with terrain and embellishment art, but it sounds like the proposed changes are going to create far-reaching consequences to fix one specific problem. For this reason alone, I'd personally suggest either leavin...

Re: Status of Loyalist Baseframes

Pending any possible inspirations from Vranca's version or further crits, here is a completed result of my take on the Royal Guard, alongside the other new sprites in the line for comparison/fit. Using a different breastplate design, It would be possible to put the SoF insigne on, but I'm partial to...

Re: Status of Loyalist Baseframes

Blast! Haha, it IS wrong, I didn't even notice it. The shield shouldn't be behind the cape like that. That will need fixing one way or another.

Re: Status of Loyalist Baseframes

I started out trying to tweak the helmet (couldn't shake the image of a silver ninja turtle head) but ended up changing a lot more. Still some stuff I wanted to work up a bit, but I really have to get to bed and it may be a few days before I can get back to it, so critique, edit, scavenge, etc. away...

Re: artisticdude's Art, Sketches and WIP's: Weapons Are Pain

That helped a lot in giving his body some depth, and the changes in the shapes of rocks on his chest is an excellent improvement. I didn't even notice the spike-y things on his shoulders until I pasted it into paint to take a closer look. If you want them to have an impact, you may need to add some ...

Re: Vranca´s artwork

I quite like the new level 2 hoplite, though it might need a little more contrast, probably of the darker darks variety (like the level 4 has on the shadowed side.) The spear is kinda jagged but I know there is only so much you can do with that angle and it might be the best that you can do without ...

Re: Status of Loyalist Baseframes

I've made some changes based on Sleepwalker and TSI's versions of the new Heavy Infantry line being bounced around in the Art Development Forum. I'm requesting permission to post this there for further feedback and potentially a Level 3 version later if feedback is positive. Thanks!

Re: Vranca´s artwork

This is very impressive. The skin colors on this version do look much better, they give a better sense of depth. Very good job on the posing; this is an area you sometimes have some trouble with but you've done a great job here. Keep up the good work.
