Why do you think wesnoth clans/groups never took off?

Is it because there's a lack of a team ladder for them to play on? I play wesnoth regularly with my friends, and we usually play on a team against the npcs (and we almost always win). But why don't you think there are more groups of people out there scheduling matches against other people? Personall...

Free war / strategy board games

I've been looking for a free war / strategy game that isn't to hard to understand, and should be meant to be played in one sitting. Diplomacy is sort of what I'm looking for, but It was meant for a lot of people and to be played by (e)mail. So it needs to easy enough to understand how to play within...

Re: Favorite freeware game

I think nexuiz deserves a spot in this thread as well. Even though i haven't played it yet, from what i've seen it is the best looking FPS shooter in the freeware category. Problem is, you will get bored of it quickly since there are dozens of these free quake clones out there since probably the la...

Re: Favorite freeware game

nquake by a long shot. No fps or game takes so much skill and practice. Really, really great game.
PS: nquake is really just quakeworld, but with so many improvements I just call it nquake.

Re: Conquest Public Beta (indie student game project)

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the GPL actually allows you to charge for your product. Red-hat is a perfect example of this. So I really don't understand what you mean when you say you're "limiting" yourselves by open-sourcing.

Dwarf fortress fulfills several of your requirements. The big landscape. Etc. etc.

Re: Onslaught (My boardgame)

Yeah, about the map: The rules were written when I was still using the map where hexes where solid colors. I'll update them today to make more sense. After I do that, I'll address each of your points individually. BFW was really an inspiration as much as diplomacy was, and the combat system is actua...

Onslaught (My boardgame)

Well, me being stupid me, I did the map in some crappy hex program, without even thinking that i could just use wesnoth. All in all, I need to redo the map in the wesnoth to make it look pretty, so for now just read the rules and comment on that. And here they are EDIT: I remade the map. [img=http:/...

Some sound effects of mine

I was playing wesnoth, when I thought of some sounds I didn't like or didn't exist. So I created a few. One is a replacement with dagger-swish. Don't know if its needed, but its there. The other is a dagger hit sound. I realized we don't have a sound specifically for that, so I had a go at making on...

Re: PoxNora

Yup, same with me only with the yu-gi-oh! craze. I never bought one card. Someone gave me 7, I traded them for 10, traded them for 20 or so, then went to 30, and made a deck. Eventually I worked my way up to build a dragon-only deck, and beat all of my friends ever time when they had each spent well...
