Re: Cross-genre games.
Savage hasn't been mentioned yet? It's a third person hack and slash with a commander person that controls the rest of the players in RTS fashion. And it has RPG elements. http://savage2.com/en/main.php It's free, it looks fun and it can't run on my pc (yay for outdated graphic cards :( ). http://sa...

Re: Favorite freeware game
What a nice thread! :) And an opportunity to raise some attention for Iji , which is freeware. A short discussion snippet from the GameFAQs forums: Some may think it's blasphemy, but I think this game is better than Cave Story. Iji is ugly as sin and has very clunky controls. To even compare it to ...

Re: Favorite freeware game
Forgot one. Cave story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_Story Many argue that it's the perfect game and I can't disagree with them. It's a pretty light game but you'll need to get a translation pack somewhere (very easy to get). PS: it's also known as "Doukutsu Monogatari" edit: damn, ju...

Dofus Arena.
So far it's still a free multiplayer game with a focus on tactics (gameplay of FFT/tactics ogre/etc) and no grind...
Pretty big learning curve though.

Re: "Fantasy Wars"
To specificy: the differences can be summed up: - mirror fighters often have somewhat different abilities available on level up. (although the grand majority of abilities are available to both factions) - other magic and quite a bit of difference between the campaign heroes - humans have an extra ar...

Re: "Fantasy Wars"
Can you tell me a little about what the factions play like? Like, what sorts of units are in the game, are there a lot of "oddball" units or are factions mostly mirrored, are there any particularly fun units, do units "level up" into others or is there city building and tech tre...

Re: "Fantasy Wars"
Completely out of curiosity, how does the combat system in this game work? How much randomness does it have compared to Wesnoth? Little, only randomness sits in that if the formula for damage doesn't get round numbers, a dice is rolled to see wether the damage is rounded up or rounded down. So if t...

Re: "Fantasy Wars"
Played it. Can be best compared with a mix of fire emblem (your fighters are just as important), advance wars (play style) and warcraft (setting) in a hexagon game field. That said, it's actually quite good. good points: + challenging (same difficult level as wesnoth) + the strategy and tactics you ...

Just some project I cam across some time ago:

But tbh, I don't even know which code that "game framework" uses (in fact, I know next to nothing about it).

First of all, one bad move should never make you loose or win the game alone. You should always win because you made more consuctive good moves than your opponent. In my opinion, strategic freedom divided by the game complexity and skill required are often inversely proportional: how less ways you c...

Dofus-arena: multiplayer TBS (open beta)
Basically, everybody has 6000 gold, which they can use to buy characters, spells and equipment. Once you have a team you can search for a fight and battle against other players around your level using these spells. There is no way a player can get more gold. There is also no way a character can impr...
