Re: requesting permission - hope this is okay

Hi, team! Long time no chat! I saw this post today and figured I'd respond in case someone ever comes here looking for answers. A number of people have asked me for a score for Still Another Wanderer. Sadly, I don't have one, at least not yet. Someday, when I have lots of time, I'd like to do two th...

Re: West's music development ideas

If anyone plans to do anything with motives/themes from either of my pieces, just let me know. Email or message me. Also, it would be nice to hear it first.

Re: GPL Policy

Most of the devs have made it clear that they don't just want composers/artists. They want a particular TYPE of composer/artist working on the game. They want the type of composers/artists who see their music/art as open content ready to be reworked by anyone as they wish to. I think it has become e...

Re: GPL Policy

It seems to me that it would at least be possible to release the game under GPL, then release the music under a separate CC, non-commercial, no derivatives license. That makes much more sense for audio media. That's what a lot of podcasters use. Even though I'm not contributing to Wesnoth anymore, I...

Re: GPL Policy

Since it came up, my best guess at "source" for music would be the project file for whatever program you use. This could then be opened by the end user in their own version of the software (Digital Performer, Cubase, Logic, etc) and they could apply their own samples to it. For some reason...

Re: GPL Policy

I could say the same thing about my code. Why for music, and not for code? We have consistently had this policy for ALL kinds of contents from the very beginning of Wesnoth. David It's my own fault then. I just never took time to understand what I was getting into when I signed up. I had no idea th...

Re: GPL Policy

Okay. Well, if I'm not allowed to pull my pieces out, I guess I'll just cut my losses, hope no one does anything with my music, and stop composing for Wesnoth. It's a bummer really, I like this team, and I really like composing for the game. We made some great tunes for Wesnoth. But I don't want peo...

Re: GPL Policy

I must have read that long ago, but with the phrasing about keeping all rights, I had assumed that meant only I can do stuff with it. I didn't know GPL meant other people can mess with my music. Really, we need to know if music can even be released under GPL. If I still have the rights to my music, ...

Re: GPL Policy

Okay, well, we need someone who understands licensing to figure out what the best way is to protect our original music pieces. If we change the license, I stay. If we don't change it, I remove my pieces from Wesnoth and walk away. I had no idea when I joined up back in the day that music could be co...

Re: GPL Policy

So I think that the issue that needs to be resolved for all of us contributors is why are we here, donating our time and effort to this cause of Wesnoth? If we hope to advance this game (and thus in my estimation, the open source initiative), then GPL shouldn't be an issue. If our goals are more pe...

Re: GPL Policy

So is our music safe here? Or is it open for people to mess with?

Please help me decide whether or not I should stay around or pull out. I need feedback from other composers here who understand the licensing better than I do.

Re: Back to work soon...

UPDATE: Last night I discovered that the Wesnoth piece I'm currently working on (the Cubase project file) was corrupted. This pretty much means that the midi data is still present, but interaction with the samples is all messed up and and can't work with it anymore. Therefore, I had to create a new ...

Re: GPL Policy

My music content is not open to be reused or rehashed by anyone. If that's the case, pull my music out. I maintain all rights for my music and will not allow anyone to mess with or mod it. I understand that the code in Wesnoth is open "source" (as in source code), but my musical notes and ...

Re: Any help with a Cubase issue?

I'm not sure how to go about that in Windows. With Mac applications, that is often an issue, and easy to fix. On Windows, it's a different story.

Last night, I just started a new audio project and re-imported. That seemed to work. No audio weirdness detected.

Re: (re-post) Heroes Rite

For what it's worth, I think it's important to acknowledge the fact that West has been a steady constant for the music department here at Wesnoth for the past year and has tried very hard to both make quality music and upload others tracks for use in the game, which is tedious work. He's done a gre...
