Re: Build your own faction

That's even better than I was looking for - I hadn't expected more than some theoretical debate. Now I can actually test the concept out in practice. Very cool era, zookeeper. I would still like to see more of other people's favorite builds for the era, though.

Build your own faction

Here's a little exercise I've been thinking about: design the best possible faction of six units taken from default multiplayer, with their current costs. "Best" here is when pitted against the six default factions. I'm interested to see how units are valued outside of their usual environm...

Spearmen also have more HP. That's one of the most compelling reasons, actually. Anyway, spearmen aren't better than bowmen; they just have more general utility, and are less easily replaced. This is in large part because of their low cost.

Spearmen can be countered by mass burners. Spearmen and burners do about equal damage to each other at any time of day. However, burners cost 21 gold. Spearmen cost 14. For every two burners you buy, your opponent can get three spearmen. Also, the spearmen have better defense practically everywhere...

I've finished very few campaigns (I think HttT and UtBS are the only ones), just because I'm typically interested in the beginnings of stories and get bored when I actually have to finish them. From what impressions I've had, though, UtBS is probably my favorite campaign overall. Love the story, the...

If there are no mirror matches and your preferred time of day differs from that of your opponent, a good player will give you at most two turns in a day cycle to attack him (i can further elaborate on that if you wish). That is not much time for killing units on good terrain and in formations, mayb...

Unit choice isn't the most important thing, but nor is it less important than things like time of day. The most important thing is simply a good grasp of Wesnothian strategy and tactics. Unit choice is an important factor of strategy, among many other factors. I agree that in many situations, there ...

First of all, the name of the campaign is Under the Burning Suns . I thought you meant EI there at first. :? There's no walkthrough because UTBS wasn't a mainline campaign until fairly recently, and all those walkthroughs were written quite a while ago. A lot of the information is outdated, so you'd...

MAGICAL should never be detrimental, the description says that magical attacks always have AT LEAST 70% chance of hitting, if it doesn't work that way then it needs to be fixed. The description (on my copy, at least) says that magical attacks always have 70%. I think the flavor of magical is that s...

I think Higher Game's principles are mostly correct here. Though I wouldn't use nearly as many mages as he suggests, you will need a couple to damage elves. Just have more fighters so you can protect those mages. :) Overall, I think this match is very flowing, with several different possible strateg...

Is it common opinion that the troll scenario (that is, the one where you're fighting them) is harder? I allied with both in an attempt to see who was the good guys. I beat the dwarf level only by the skin of my teeth and without a turn to spare after a dozen tries, and the troll's dungeon with consi...

P.S. Even after the Scepter of Fire scenario, he still is only level 2, and Li'sar has the Scepter. Otherwise known as, he sucks.
Go figure.

What you recruit/recall should be dependent on who you ally with, unless you're a stickler for RP. If you're going to ally with the elves, recruit mostly elves; otherwise, don't get any. The outlaw path seems a bit easier to me, but both are definitely playable. Anyway, clear out the closer enemies,...
