Bleh, I'm not able to even come close to beating the 1st scen on 4 tries (normal level) ! Can't see what "strategy" could be useful - no terrain (wood everywhere), no villages, only elves, but odds 3:1 = automatic loss except for lucky players, and I'm never lucky. Very frustrating :...

I'm not for a deterministic game, but I find Wesnoth curently too much random-oriented. For example, a 6-4 50% attack has an average of 12 damage done, but the std dev is quite high. I'd much prefer some "determined part" plus a random, for example having a sure 6 + three 50% random. Some ...

Sorry, I don't understand what I'm supposed to do in the 1st scenario  Caravans should be on the human camp and should get to the Dwarves, no ? Why is there no caravans at start and do I have to recruit Dwarven caravans ? What am I supposed to do with ? I may be dumb, but I think the objective...

Hum, as we say here "best is enemy of good"... Well, consider the option of letting your ideas live rather than die

Re: Campaigns that are not on Campaign Server

There are five campaigns listed here that are not on the campaign server. Some of their authors are still here (those of the Assassin Campaign and of Unrest in Elfland). Can EP and Gafgarion either upload these campaigns to the server, or add a line to the wiki page saying "development of this...

Aelius, About frustation : yes, it's frustating when you begin to play to realize on 5th scenario that you've blown the campaign (not enough gold/xped units), after believing that you've won easily the first scenarios ! When one knows the game a little more it becomes more natural to think this way ...

I don't like much the current "defense only" system except for its simplicity  - tactically and intuitively it smells wrong.. Ex : my Assassin sneak to deal double backstab damage ... but has 30% to hit, facing an enemy that will get 50% !! However basing attack and defense o...

About creating unit : it would be utterly cool to have some basic GUI to create units (and generate the WML). Although the basics are quite obvious some things (such as attack animations) are less so
Some examples on how work the most arcane parameters should help - the WML ref has none.

As I involuntarly launched the discussion, surely I have to intervene : When I wrote about gold to balance scenarios I was not implying it was good design, it was just the first simple way I thought of... Aelius, you have very strong arguments, but overall they're all around "let's make differe...

Not to shoot you down, and you're free to discuss it... but realize that active this has been discussed before and rejected. I'll try to find the relevant thread, and give the reason why. I think some of it is outlined in the Wesnoth Philosophy (first link on the wiki homepage). This is the importa...

More magical effects !

In Fantasy games I particularly like the tactical fun & variety given by "magical effects" - spells, auras, potions, whatever... What I'd define as a "magical effect" is something that changes the usual unit statistics or behavior. In Wesnoth they exist, but are not numerous ...

I wasn't complaining that charge is "too weak" or anything like that, but rather that there is no rationale for a charge to give double damage to all attacker and defender attacks. A charging cavalryman will strike first with double damage, ok ! Then he *has* to fear the return attack if t...

The problem I have with Charge is rather than it's more often a benefit to the target than to the attacker !  This is mainly linked to the fact that charge has generally 2 attacks while most units have 3 or more. What about making it a more useful ability, for example by giving only +50%...

A pretty extreme case, isn't it ? I could try to play Wesnoth on my antiquated P90 laptop, and ask for low res display, but am afraid to ask   I don't think so. Not everyone can buy a new computer just because they want one. :) But in any case, are there any reasons not to compre...

Who cares for 50 Mb saves instead of 5 or 10 on anything better than 5-years old machines (and even those had > 1Gb disks..) ? :? And in this case mount some "compressed drive" directly on the disk... you don't seem to realize that BFW is currently supported on older hardware as well. =) ...
