What I would like to see most of all are configurable rules options. Basically an optional screen at the start of a new campaign (or AI/multiplayer game for the matter) which contains stuff like - capture level: friendly units of this level or higher are considered valuable hostages and are not kill...

The simplest solution would be not to display the XP bar for units that are at their max level. The XP until ALMA could still be read from the unit description. This would automactically convey the idea to newbies that it might not be a good idea to waste XP on such a unit and not to hope for self h...

algorithm steps: 1. resting and village healing 2. while there are healers left that can heal: - calculate for each healer how much healing points he could apply if he had them (=sum up number of missing HP for adjacent own/allied units) - pick healer for whom that number is lowest That's pretty mu...

Current status of healing

As has been discussed in the user forum ("How Does Healing Work" http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4253 ), the current algorithm doesn't try at all to efficiently distribute the available healing to your wounded troops. In fact, all it does is for each healer to check how may ad...

Re: Patches

Shouldn't cvs do exactly what you want? Ok, it's not comperessed (I think) but even that should be doable with the right SSH config.

You wouldn't need a turn bonus either, because you can delay the final kill for as long as you want, prcatically giving you unlimited gold.

My point, ignatius, is primarily one of narrative consistency. If the clans are seeking to test you, not to destroy you, why should they slaughter your units? The level is "Test of the Clans" not "Vendetta of the Clans." It's counter-intuitive to make this level in such a way th...

The clans are seeking to test you, not to destroy you. Any units lost by either side in the course of the scenario should be restored to life at the end of the scenario. Or perhaps they should be removed from play when they are reduced to one health instead of when they are killed. C'mon, this is t...

Re: Some proposed changes to Heir to the Throne

Problem: I recall 5 Elvish Avengers. Then any enemy who charges (assuming they have lots of Horsemen) will take 16-4 damage (a LOT) and then they can be finished off by 13-4 (still a lot) bows. Not fun, especially if you lose units as well as winning trivially. I assume that the Clans would get to ...

Re: Unit recruitment strategy

I may be asking to be spoonfed on this one. I am interested in exactly what people recruit on different scenarios. For example, I am currently working my way through Bay of Pearls. I started the level with 378 gold and basically kept recruiting until I ran out of money. BoP was the level which made...

Re: Some proposed changes to Heir to the Throne

I quite like the ideas, esp. the Duell in ToC: It adds a completly new twist, by having to select 5 very strong units which probably wont make it all out alive (I assume that only Konrad gets auto-recalled for this) and it's also a refreshing change from the huge armys that tend domiate the second h...

It'd be impossible to make the game sanely balanced for all possible rulesets, and in practice, it'd probably only be possible to make it sanely balanced for a smallish subset of the rulesets. IMHO, the whole point of having rules options is to make the game unbalanced on purpose . In fact, the sce...

I'm afraid that the developers of 'the' official version of Wesnoth have no plans to use this patch. We consider it to change fundamental game mechanics, and we are opposed to distributing a game which is 'schizophrenic' about its ruleset. To get this straight: No patches which implement rule optio...

Re: Sun Tzu's "Art of War" for Gamers

I'm currently working on a project for college. For my Asian studies class I'm re-tooling Sun Tzu's "Art of War" as a strategy guide for turn based strategy games. Going though the passages and some of the commentator's readings in "Art of War" and relating it to games like &quo...

Re: Luck

This is a bit related to the "balanced fighting" patch I saw in another thread. I did the balancd_fight_mode patch and I'm currently using it while playing TRoW campaign. From the reactions, it became clear, that any softening-the-game patch would have to be optional (which was my intenti...
